WebJohn's is more basic and focused toward gi while gordon's more towards no gi. Ah, that’s fair, I had no idea John had a closed guard one tbh. Gordon's is nogi focused heavily on float passing. I didn't find it heavy on float passing. I'd say his main focus is getting upper body control as a first step. WebGuard in BJJ is neither good nor bad but is actually considered a neutral position. There is both top and bottom guard in BJJ both being considered equally advantageous. That being said, it really depends on the game you like to play. Personally, I like to play the top game in BJJ so I would personally rather be in top guard than bottom guard.
